WHITEHALL, NY --- Students and faculty of Whitehall Central School District can look forward to a snow day Friday, May 28, 2021, if not sooner.

Unless it snows in Whitehall before next Friday, the district will enjoy an extended four-day Memorial Day weekend.

"The WPA contract specifies a 184-day school year," said Superintendent of Schools Patrick Dee at a meeting of the Board of Education. Dee explained that since the district didn't use all the snow days built into this year's schedule, the school would exceed the 184-day mark if school were opened next Friday.

Dee said the only way the school would schedule a normal day is if it snows before then. "If it's not used before then because of snow, the Friday closing will be labelled as a snow day," Dee said.
